3/10 08:00 -16:45. 14.3km 26,000 steps. TA 611m

Lengzui Toucun - Shapo Yucun

Drove 45 minutes to Lengzui Toucun and made good head start to Shapo Yucun by mid-day. After some confusion over wall continuation, began the arduous ascend of 400m in a stretch. Beautiful impressive state of the wall and towers. A huge barrier mountain means a detour another to be met with another even higher mountain to ascend. The day was getting misty and dim and decided to exit the wall. Hit the newly cemented country road and certain parts were still wet. Unfortunately couldn’t avoid stepping along it and left a long trail of footprints. Had to apologise to the good natured workers. Back to Zunhua for a good night’s sleep.

4/10 Pouring rain in Zunhua for the whole day again enforces another rest day.

Repaired my gaiters zip head and cleared some emails.

5/10 09:00 – 17:30 9.8km 17,818 steps. TA 570m

Shapo Yucun – Koumenzi.

The National Day’s fireworks and crackers woke the bright orange sun – bright and sunny – waited for the ground to dry and retraced our steps to Shapo Yucun and the imprints for the day before led us back to the wall. Slow easy climb over the peak but soon had to bush fight to get to the next.with some treacherous boulders and loose rocks to carefully managed. Rolled over the edge of one when my stick missed terra firma and luckily held onto the bushes from falling over – let out a loud cry but AL only heard a yelp as he was much further ahead. Climbed back up the edge with much relief.

Continued slowly with some really steep descends and generally it turned out to be a good day of trekking. The sky darkened by 5pm and even before the sun set, the moon was already smiling in the northern sky. The day was dark by 6pm

You actually clear e-mails!! Been enjoying your "dairy" and can see that you are enjoying yourselves. Take care and do write a book with plenty pictures (a good reason to go back).

What an interesting read. But i dont envy you...i hate those climbs. Can attempt flat surfaces like the syrian desert, where i walked for a bit. But not mountains...although having said that i did climb one hill in palmyra in syria to catch the sunset.

Keep the stories coming! I am back in msia but leaving on 20th oct.
