1: Countdown to Laolongtou.

Happy Merdeka and Happy Malaysia Day, folks.

 

2014 is my 6th and hopefully penultimate trek to Laolongtou “Old Dragon Head” (老龙头) in Shanhaiguan  (山海关), which meets the Bohai Sea (渤海) on the east coast of China. The traced wall to Laolongtou is about 430km and we hope to go as far as we can, given the difficult mountain terrain.

 

We shall restart our trek from last year’s stop at the small village area of NanZhuangcun, a beautifully difficult section, and thru to the equally beautiful Huangyaguan (黄崖关) - originally built over 1400 years ago in the Northern Qi Dynasty and reinforced with brick walls in the Ming Dynasty.

 

The wall from Huangyaguan is pretty much continuous till Panjiakou (潘家口), where it decides to take a dip under water – (the only section of the Great Wall submerged under water), and a great point for our respite.

 

My training this year, has not been ideal when I took up a consulting engagement in the Czech Republic in July, but with the usual great company of AL and JK, I'm sure we will get as far as we could in 26 days of hiking (Sep 21- Oct 15).

hi hin, you must now be well on your adventure on.the great wall.  me, i am in jing yun, zhejiang abt 20+ days into our month long trip into northern jiangxi n central zhejiang.  love it walking around in at least 6 national parks.  the chinese understand national parks even some 2,000 years ago!  hope.u hv a great trip n  looking fwd to hearing abt yr trip!  take.good care, be careful but enjoy yrself!
