Hin's 2nd C.O.U.N.T. 1,000,000 steps (Sep 3rd – 26th, 2010)

0: Hin's 2nd C.O.U.N.T. 1,000,000 steps.

Thean Hin Ooi <ooithin@gmail.com   Mon, Jun 21, 2010 at 6:17 PM

Well folks,

It's that time of the year when the full moon is at its brightest in the northern hemisphere and the "crazy Walkman" strikes again.

Yes, it’s the 2nd C.O.U.N.T. 1,000,000 steps on the Ming Great Wall of China.

The vision is C.O.U.N.T (Charity, Optimism, Unity, Nature, Tomorrow) :-

"Every fortunate person to demonstrate the Charity of one's heart and donate to the destitute and needy, so that together we can share and partake in the Optimism and hope for the Unity of all peoples to preserve the wonders and beauty of Nature for our children of Tomorrow."

No, don't jump out of the window yet. My mission is not to collect donation from you but it's hope that we all realise how fortunate we are and share our "gifts" with others. Even throwing back into the sea one starfish of thousands stranded on the morning beach makes a great difference to that starfish. Dust your cheque book, and donate to your favourite charity, if not done so, for this year. It's heartening to know many good friends continue to donate to charities, and more so, that some did so following my 1st walk.

Last year, the 1st walk covered 1,121,284 steps (593.2KM) in 20 days starting from the western most tower in Jiayuguan along the Gansu province to Zhongwei in NIgnxia. (See 1st 1,000,000 steps weblink).

Many friends have mentioned their desire to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience and I have mapped out the 2nd 1,000,000 steps stretch, continuing from Ningxia to the end of the Shaanxi province - a distance of about 600KM. (See COUNT-down2 track weblink). It's anticipated to take 26 days of walking, chiefly because it winds through spectacular rugged mountains, sparkling arid desert, the majestic ragging HwangHer river, and the mosquito infested Loess plateau. And if mosquitoes are not thrilling enough, expect snakes and scorpions for company too. Tigers and bears? Many of their body parts are already in the Chinese Medicine shops.

My very good friend Zul Abd says that he shall join me in spirits. Well for others who have similar thoughts, you could do likewise by "sponsoring" the following items (preferably UVP+50 - ultra violet protection, UL - ultra light, and QD - quick dry) and I shall carry all of you with me:-
- a hat with net (to keep the mossie out),
- a daypack to carry 3-little water and snacks
- t-shirts and a bodysuit sports skin to keep cool and warm
- a poncho to keep out the rain and emergency shelter
- walking stick, shoes, socks, plasters etc.
and no sponsor required for the UVP, UL, QD underwear to protect my "mankind", thank you.

Light training has commence since June1 and to date, managed 214,474 steps (117.9KM).

This 2nd 1,000,000 steps shall take off on Aug31 (Malaysia's Merdeka day).

Mao once said, the march of 10,000 li starts with the 1st step, well, I'd say the journey of a 1,000,000 steps begins with a "crack" in the head. So, any other cracked pots out to join me? Liverpool fans? You will never walk alone!

Please don't say, "if only I were 10 years older/younger" - you can either go back to sleep after each morning and continue your dreams or wake up and follow it (them)!

Start the C.O.U.N.T. down and spread the word - if each of you send this awareness campaign to 10 others, soon, we'll have 1,000,000 fortunate people C.O.U.N.T.ing 1.000,000 steps.

God bless, Omitofo.

Regards,
Hin

Hi angie and Tat Seng,

Thanks for the T-shirts. You two shall offer me shelter from the sun, rain and wind.

The GPS location for your "brick" is N 37 07' 47.5", E 104 15' 22.9".

This 2nd stretch will still be predominatly "earth" wall, I shall see whether I can find a suitable (portable for an old man) "brick" for you.

Rgds,
Hin

Where is this place?  Great Wall of China trail?

Oh, no way can I join you.  A few months ago, I went to just one part of the Great Wall and I had just about enough energy to walk the the trail, starting from the 'Moo Thean .....??? (something)' point.

Are you in the process of becoming a monk or something like that? If you are, I urge you to get to know who God and Jesus Christ first, then make the decision.
An opportunity to explore for the truth and you WILL NEVER REGRET!!!  Trust me, as you've done in the past.

Enjoy the walk!

Oh, so what exactly do you want to be 'sponsored' and also just out of curiosity, why the need of sponsorship?
How many people would be in the 'walk'.  What is the objective of this 'walk'.  You know, like when people participate in a walkaton for a certain purpose.

Cheers
Eleanor

Hi Ele,

Go the weblinks (marked in blue letterings?) in the mail to see the googlemap location and the trail.

No, no to your queries of monastery and sponsorship.

I shall be walking alone......

It's just a personal awareness campaign to all my friends - be thankful of how fortunate we are and to help the less fortunate (refer Vision).

Thanks for your concern anyway.

Take care.

Thanks, now can click to the links.

Just curious!  Are you not working anymore, so you can be walking around?  Heh! Heh!

Thean Hin Ooi <ooithin@gmail.com>   Mon, Jun 28, 2010 at 11:43 AM

Good. Now come walk with me?

sudah pencen la.....

E Lim <xxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.com>   Mon, Jun 28, 2010 at 9:20 PM

Oh, good to know.  So now can do all that 'leisure' stuff that you didn't have time to do so while working. Are you children all grown up and your responsibilities of financing them completed?

2 of our children are still at Uni and graduating in their first degree this year.  One just finished her last exam a few days ago and the other by end of this year.  Our daughter would pursue her Masters, so it'll be at least another 2 years or less.  She'll be back from London for the 3 months summer break and would decide where she wants to do her Masters.

My husband and I are not into walking.  He is more game into fishing, golfing, motorised paragliding and skiing.
We started skiing about 3 years ago.  Our next skiing trip in Aug would be to NZ, south island.

Hin, did I ask you what is the objective or your walk of ?? thousand steps.  Or it's just a personal endeavour and to enjoy nature?

Bye for now.

This out-of -tthe-world character was my schoolmate (Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid, 1973, Form 6). I never knew that he is so wise and far-thinking AND ADVENTUROUS! AND, such a kind soul too. Recently, he helped me raise more than RM2300 towards the IMPIAN walkathon.( IMPIAN is a school  non-profitable, non-govt.-aided for children/people with autism & other learning difficulties). That amount is substantial , considering the total I  managed to raise was only about RM5000.

Anyway, since he wants to spread the message, I'm forwarding it to the few contacts that I have in my address book (few, as I never found the time to update/add).

Have  fun reading!

Uncle Hin,

Good luck on your 2nd C.O.U.N.T. Please keep me updated. This is the sort of journey that I feel is essential for us all. If schedule permits, I would like to join you on your next C.O.U.N.T. I am sure Cheryl will too. This is spiritually essential.

Good luck.

BoonThye

Thanks Boon Thye,

All the very best to you and your family. It may be too early for you to make the journey spiritually.

Perhaps, you could join me on a small portion of the next 1,000,000 steps or so.

Rgds,
Hin

Hi Uncle Hin

Yes, perhaps joining you for a portion of the next 1,000,000 steps will be a good start.

Out of curiousity, why do you say that it may be too early for me to make the journey spiritually? What is your thinking on this? I'd like to hear more and understand.

Boon
