Koumenzi – Louwenyu – Ganchayu.

Yet another bright day – the 9 Emperors Gods must have been appeased. Routine challenging climbs and ascends – wall relatively cleared of shrubs. China’s golden week brought out many local tourists to the easily accessible Louwenyu wall – with many requesting photo-shots with AL – the laowai (white foreigner), with a family even following him from tower to tower, snapping away.

After a while, had to scrambled away and descended to the village of Ganchayu and were most surprised by the generosity of an old Christian couple. Were given huge jugs of peach juice, many pears and delicious sesame cookies to go on our way – most grateful. Ended the day early beside the G112 expressway. We were unsure what the next section offers in terms of exits for the last 2 remaining daylight hours. We are now in the Tangshan area, where in the early 70’s, a massive earthquake struck and claimed 400,000 lives. Incredibly no visible cracks were noticed along the wall and towers.

Ganchayu – Mati yucun – Loutuo Bozi

Bight day start and made excellent progress in the morning. After 3 mountains, came down to Mati yucun and in the afternoon was joined by KQ who just arrived from Singapore. An immediate ascent of 250m was an easy jaunt for the fit KQ, descended on the north side to the valley and walked to Loutuo Bozi’s sundry shop.

CH was on the other side of the wall and took close to an hour to pick us up. Whilst waiting, we were entertained by the local lasses doing their rhythmic line dancing to loud pop songs. Of course, they were practicing and put on a great show for AL, the laowai. Another hour before we returned to our base in Zunhua but who is complaining? AL was so happy, he treated us to the local fine dining restaurant – what style this star has.
