Hin's 4th C.O.U.N.T. 1,000,000 steps (Sep 22nd – Oct 16th, 2012)

1: Harimau down, Dragon no show.

Thean Hin Ooi <ooithin@gmail.com>   Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Left for Beijing on 20Sep, landed at 1:20am 21Sep, laid over at the airport and took the Airport train to the city at 1st light. Met JK -samurai- at the Beijing West station and reach Zhangjiakou at 3pm. Picked up by our guide CH and proceed to the hotel after late lunch. AL -oldenburg- reported in at 8pm and we had our dinner and decided on the next day's hike. No sign of the dragon - decided to skip due to work and as it turns out, he is actually an Aussie kangaroo. Well next time then.

22Sep. 6:30 - 13:30: Dajingmen – Toudabiancun - Dajingmen. 26,831 steps. 18.1km. Ascent 985m.

Great day, clear sky. cool day. Al. JK and I started just off Dajingmen and up the climb to the challenging wall. I knew this stretch is tough from last year's experience and a senior like me would need to be 150%, well I wasn't and 4.5km into the continual ascending walk, and several slips on the loose stones, felt a strain on the upper left thigh and as time went on, it became increasingly painful to lift the left leg. Upon reaching the next village (Toudabiancun) 8.5km further, decided to descend and hike back to Dajingmen. On the flat, it's OK but it's going to be extremely tough this section. Called it a day for myself, whereas AL and JK explored the western side of Dajingmen. I hope after this evening's rest, the thigh would recover sufficiently to continue tomorrow, else the Harimau will have to lie low for a couple of days. Fingers crossed and you know how a wounded tiger would react, yeah?

Good night and all the best.

Hin

I am sure you would have prepared well with pain relievers & hope you will recover with determination & high spirit.
On the golfing front, took home RM 100 Transmil voucher for NTP at hole 15. Ball hit pin & rested 19 inches from the hole.
Take care.

Hin--

Thanks for the update; will wait for the next installment! Nothing exciting to report here, just busy being a grandad and playing soccer twice a week. Oh, and still working, of course. I'm not wealthy enough to retire...like you!

By the way, please change my email address to xxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.com. Take care.

Thean Hin Ooi <ooithin@gmail.com>   Fri, Oct 26, 2012 at 10:51 AM

Thanks Mark and congrats for being head of the 3rd generation, and still playing soccer? Amazing Grandpa.

Good to hear that you are still gainfully employed.... over here, we are put to the pastures much earlier. Thus poor me can only afford to walk ....... everywhere.....

When you are ready to take a hike, do let me know.

Regards to Indrani and the "kids".

We still have our hands full with 10-year old Amanda....

Take care,
Hin
