Longmencun - Huangya

Bright clear blue sky after yesterday’s thunderstorms. Resumed at Longmencun and went a long way along the wall. Met some Beijing wall hikers going the other way and mentioned the possible exit points to them – good luck. Reached the tri-provincial border point of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and againsome tourists, one in a Superman suit, one portly gentleman and a fussy woman busy snapping photos of themselves. Left them and reached the small village of Xiaopingan, Huangya for the night.

28/9 08:00-17:45 11.2km 18,181 steps. TA 707m.

Chixiayucun - Xinlicun

Started at Chixiayu village, bought a few apples and pears from an old lady and before long had to fight the bushes to get to the wall. This section of the wall made good use of the natural barriers – enormous boulders and plunging cliffs. The stacked stones are now loose without the mortar, and treacherous going down.

Many places of the wall were widely covered with overgrown bushes and shrubs. Can’t see much with the head-height brushes but found the old Ming steps, enclosed by 2 steep mountains, to get around the wall cliff.

Ended the day around Qingdongling (Eastern Qing Dynasty Tombs) area. Another tough day in the office, as they say – fell twice – once, broke the tip of my walking stick and the other, over a stone, nearly twisted my left ankle. Exited at persimmons orchard (and as usual, had my share) and eventually reached the village of Xinlicun. Stayed the night at a villager’s house in Nianyu Chicun.

Dear THin.

Thanks for the nice update. Felt like I was there, minus the hardship. But had to imagine the juiciness of the persimmons and apples (looks like the peak of fruit season there!). Had a long day (but arguably in great comfort compared to you!) today with some walking kakis, who used to walk in Kiara and who are now not so regular (5 couples altogether, including kee Chai and wife)n- to Sekinchan for sumptuous food. Keep it up Brother!

Cheers,

Bc
